WAYS TO DONATE

We are ALL philanthropists.

All of us have given donations at some point in our lives to different causes or groups we wish to
support. The Nevis Community Foundation provides a more structured way to connect philanthropic
giving with the needs and aspirations of the Nevis Community

The primary targets for philanthropic giving will be individuals or families, and businesses they may
be linked to. The aim will be to encourage philanthropic giving from expats with houses or business
interests in Nevis and Nevisians living abroad, as well as local Nevisians and businesses.

Why give to the NCF as your philanthropic choice?

1. Improving the quality of life in Nevis

2. An effective way to link donors with community needs and aspirations

3. A proven and sustainable model of philanthropy that works

4. A vehicle for donors to give to the causes that matter most to them

5. Endowment funds with long-term impact

6. Maximising tax benefits for donors

7. A flexible approach that can be tailored to individual donors

Information about types of funds for donors

Donors can contribute to:

  •   The general capital endowment fund, whose income will be used to support local causes
  •  A dedicated endowment fund in the name of the donor, focusing on a particular cause/s
that they wish to support. To be eligible to have a dedicated fund, the donation must be large
enough to merit the administration costs of having a separate fund. This figure is determined by the
    Board of Directors
  •  A themed endowment fund, where several donors contributions are pooled, but within a fund
    restricted for an agreed purpose
  • An annual fund, which is a fund where the gift is treated entirely as revenue, and where the
money donated is directly spent on grants rather than used to build a capital endowment fund.

Donations can be provided by:

A one-off grant

Annual giving over a period of years.

The Foundation also encourages legacies of money, shares or properties.

Management costs

All funds take a share of the overall costs of the Foundation carrying out its charitable activities. Fees
are lower for unrestricted funds which require less administration, and for larger funds. As with
other Community Foundations, the NCF also seeks to raise dedicated funding to cover its operational
costs

How to donate

community

The Foundation is being set up in such a way as to maximise the potential for donors to secure tax relief on their donation in the country where they have their primary residence/business and pay tax. For example, for USA donors the NCF will be registered with the IRS as a section 501(c)3 organisation.

For UK donors, donations will be eligible for gift aid.
For example, the Charities Aid Foundations in the USA and UK can enable citizens of those countries, for an administrative fee, to donate to charities abroad (such as the Nevis Community Foundation) and claim eligible tax relief on their gift.
